Man arrested after deputies investigate burglaries

Deputies arrested a man after investigating an overnight burglary Wednesday at a home on Highway 157 in Colbert County.

Investigators said a noise woke up the homeowner and when he turned the light on he saw a man standing in the bedroom going through the drawers of his gun cabinet. The suspect fled the scene.

According to deputies, another homeowner reported later in the morning that he woke up and discovered a man inside the house. The homeowner yelled at him and the man fled again.

Investigators identified the man as Nicholas Terry and found him asleep in his vehicle in the Walmart parking lot.

Later Wednesday morning a subject came to the Sheriff’s Office and reported finding a boat in his back yard when he woke up that morning.  Investigators went to the address and found a blue and white ski boat. The boat was identified as stolen from Muscle Shoals, valued at about $2,000. According to deputies, Terry also admitted to the theft of the boat.

Terry was charged with burglary, theft of property, unlawful breaking and entering of a vehicle, theft of property, receiving stolen property, and public intoxication. Terry is being held on $40,000 bond.
