TUSCUMBIA, AL (WAFF)- Authorities now have a cause of death in the murder of an elderly Tuscumbia man during a home invasion.
The preliminary autopsy was released in the Elbert Davis Jr. investigation.
Friends found the 88-year-old man unconscious in his home in August. He died 24 hours later.
Investigators confirmed he was beaten to death.
Investigators hope clues from the autopsy will lead them to his killer.
Chief Tony Logan said Davis died from what officials are calling severe head trauma, and it's definitely a homicide case.
The preliminary results came exactly one week after Davis was found unconscious inside his home on High Street.
Police said Davis was found at the bottom of the stairs on the lower level of the house and there were signs of forced entry into the home through the back door.
ABI agents and Tuscumbia Police are combing through evidence, looking into every tip they receive.
Logan said they will not rest until Davis's killers are found.
If you have any information on what happened to Davis, call the police or Crime Stoppers. You can remain anonymous.
