Students at Deshler High School are wearing ribbons to remember the victims of the Sandy Hook tragedy.

TUSCUMBIA, AL (WAFF)- Students at Deshler High School in Tuscumbia will wear green and white ribbons to school on Monday to remember the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary shooting.

Green and white are Sandy Hook's school colors. Deshler students passed out 600 handcrafted ribbons in front of the school starting 7:15 a.m.

A student thought of the idea over the weekend to hold the memory of the victims and their families as they return to school on Monday, the first day back to class since the devastating shooting in Newtown, Connecticut.

The gunfire Friday at Sandy Hook Elementary School left a toll both unbearable and incalculable: 20 students and six adults at the school, the gunman's mother at home, and the gunman himself.
