Witnesses testify in Colbert Co. murder trial | News

COLBERT COUNTY, AL (WAFF)- Witnesses testified Tuesday in the case of a Colbert County man on trial for his father's murder.

Brian Martin is accused of shooting Donice "Booboo" Scott back in 2011.

Family and friends of both the victim and the defendant filled the courtroom Tuesday morning.

Martin didn't say anything; he just sat and watched the proceedings take place.

His attorneys claim he shot his father out of self defense, saying Scott met him at the door with a sword when he went to pick up money.

The jury heard testimony from several witnesses, including some of Scott's closest friends who saw both Martin and Scott just hours before the shooting took place. Each of them described Martin and his father's relationship as a love-hate relationship.

One of the state's witnesses said he got into an argument with Martin months after the shooting. During that argument, he said Martin told him, "I'll do you like I did my daddy."

The jury also heard testimony from forensics officers.

Testimony will continue at 9 a.m. Wednesday.
