Bentley: Amendment coming to Accountability Act

Gov. Robert Bentley said this morning he is working on an executive amendment to the state's new Accountability Act because he opposes public tax dollars being funneled to private schools.

"It has never been my goal to have a bill that supports private education," Bentley said while speaking at a breakfast for business leaders.

Later, he said he would have the amendment available for lawmakers by mid-week. A week from today is their final legislative session of the year.

FLORENCE --; Award-winning music producer Rick Hall will speak at the University of North Alabama's department of entertainment industry at 3 p.m., Tuesday.

The event, dubbed "Coffee Talk with Rick Hall," will be in the Mane Room, 310 N. Pine St., a performance venue for the entertainment department.

The event is free and open to the public.

Sheffield High to host Rachel's Challenge Foundation

Sheffield Schools will hold a special event on January 22 with one of the Columbine shooting victim’s foundations.

Sheffield High School will play host to Rachel’s Challenge Foundation.

The program focuses on Columbine victim Rachel Scott and her example of how small acts of kindness and acceptance can change relationships.

Rachel Scott was the first student killed at Columbine High School in 1999. The program was started by Rachel's dad and stepmom.

The event will be 8:30 to 9:10 for third through sixth grade, 10 to 11 for seventh through twelfth grade, 1:30 to 3 for student workshops and 6 p.m. for the community and parent program with dinner at 5 p.m.
