State emphasizes motorcycle safety

Promoting safe driving habits by motorists and motorcyclists is a key element of the state's promotion of National Motorcycle Safety Awareness Month.

The Alabama Department of Transportation along with other state agencies, motorcycle clubs, businesses, safety groups and state and local law enforcement are reminding drivers and riders that motorcycle safety is a shared responsibility.

Transportation Director John Cooper stresses motorcycle riders and motorists must share the road to remain safe.

"As a matter of safety, it is necessary for motorcycle riders and drivers of other types of vehicles to use safe driving habits," Cooper said. "To prevent injuries and deaths on Alabama's roadways, motorcyclists and motorists must be vigilant in their efforts to share the road and ensure everyone's safety."... Read More

18 wheeler carrying scrap metal overturns

18 wheeler carrying scrap metal overturns

An 18 wheeler overturned on Ford Road in Muscle Shoals.

Officials said a tractor trailer carrying 40,000 pounds of scrap metal overturned around 9:30 a.m.

The roadway was blocked for several hours while crews cleaned up the mess.

The driver was not injured, and no other vehicles were involved.

Officials are looking in to what caused the wreck.

Dump truck overturns in Sheffield

Dump truck overturns in Sheffield

A dump truck turned over in Sheffield on Tuesday afternoon.

It happened at the intersection of Hatch and Jackson boulevards.

The truck was full of cotton, which spilled on the roadway.

There were no injuries, but there was major traffic congestion as authorities worked to clean up the accident.

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
