Sheffield Police arrested five people during a safety checkpoint Thursday night.

Officials said they conducted a safety checkpoint to check for insurance and driver’s licenses.

During the checkpoint they arrested five people. Officers said they found drugs, and one person had a loaded gun on his lap when he came through the checkpoint. They also issued 21 citations and towed several cars.

Officers said more checkpoints are planned in the future.
